  • ***Best viewed with closed captions*** With more board configurations than there are atoms in the universe, the ancient Chinese game of Go has long been considered a grand challenge for artificial intelligence. On March 9, 2016, the worlds of Go and artificial intelligence collided in South Korea for an extraordinary best-of-five-game competition, coined The DeepMind Challenge Match. Hundreds of millions of people around the world watched as a legendary Go master took on an unproven AI challenger for the first time in history. Directed by Greg Kohs with an original score by Academy Award nominee, Hauschka, AlphaGo chronicles a journey from the halls of Oxford, through the backstreets of Bordeaux, past the coding terminals of DeepMind in London, and ultimately, to the seven-day tournament in Seoul. As the drama unfolds, more questions emerge: What can artificial intelligence reveal about a 3000-year-old game? What can it teach us about humanity?

When it takes a whole army of AI engineers to beat one single human mind in a table game, one realizes the real power and potential of humanity to make a better planet. Congrats Lee Sedol.

I played Go since I was 5, and now I am 27. I remember sitting in my chair 2am in the morning everyday watching the games live...Game 4 took my breath away, legit was crying full on in my room.

When he came back and saw move 37, you could see a genius and his wheels turning... but you could also see the limit of the human brain and at the same time the limitless power of artificial intelligence. The whole video has this feeling of like "Well, we had a good run."

Lee Sedol deserves his own movie. I'd call it, "0.0007%"

The fact that Lee Sedol was so confident in winning 5-0 or 4-1 against Alpha Go, but in the end he was very happy of winning 1 game against Alpha Go is so moving. It just gives humans a time to reflect that we are not the best and we need to think again about our norms and judgement, and to remember that we are all in this journey together.
